For the second part of the Locating Place project, students were required to create a non-PDF-able book relating to the east side of Austin. The only specific requirement was to include a text excerpt from Kevin Lynch, a former urban planner. Playing off of the past, present and future of a city life, I looked into archived images of Austin as well as two additional texts by an American sociologist and broadcast journalist encompassing different eras. The remaining images were taken from a class pool. My aim was to make the book into three different sections creating almost three separate books that created one whole, thus the colored pages seen from the side represent the center, enveloped city of the east side, encompassed in the whole of Austin, TX.
